those three words

An ex of mine drunk dialled me and asked me a horribly difficult question:

“Did you ever love me?”

To which I responded (with hesitation), “I don’t even know what is love anymore”. She interpreted this answer in the worst way possible and I felt like a total douchebag. I did tell her that I have mixed feelings about her, which were both good and bad. When I was with her, it was always a battle between both our humongous egos and the inability to openly declare feelings. Also, we never used those 3 words.

You know, those three words that are said too much, but not enough?

Anyways, I’ve used those words before. I’m pretty sure I meant them. I’m pretty sure I felt it. It also seems that the older I get, the more complicated the feelings those words arouse. It was much easier to say when I was young and innocent. Now I hesitate to use them.

So there you go, another reason for me to feel like an asshole.

update: So, apparently I was wrong about her reaction to my answer. According to her, she was referring to another guy on her blog entries and whatever she said that night while drunk, I should dismiss. So I guess I’m not such a douchebag after all.

yeah man, what is she trying to do? it’s over means it’s over, why still want to play the emotional game with you? sigh.

      • blackdog says:

She may be feeling insecure or labouring hopes, thats all. So yeah, make it clear if its over.

      • jasonphoon says:

yeah , there was no indication for 2-3 months before this, and suddenly a drunk-dial ? I don’t get it either …

      • blackdog says:

Well, no indication does not mean she doesnt have feelings / hope for you (last 2-3 months). But well it does not mean she does either. You know better

Maybe she was already reconciling to that fact, but i think she also wanted to know, if you ever loved her, to find a good meaning out of it at the end of the day. I think it was clear she was emotional about it and it affected her in some way…

    • jasonphoon says:

whoah , sounds like you’ve been drunk dialled before ! hahah

  3. blackdog says:

So what is your outcome now?

What is it that you want?

Do you know what you want?

    You’re learning well, young man.

  5. pk says:

hmm…maybe she is having emotional problems herself.
Don’t worry you don’t have to feel bad ok. You are not obliged to say ‘i love you’ if you have doubts. When it’s true love, you don’t have to hesitate, you will know.
And till that time comes, just enjoy life and be happy.
Life is short, make it sweet. :)

  6. wynna says:

Lol I think you’re over thinking.
But whatever makes you happy! :)

p/s: From what I recall, she wasnt calling for you.

i listen to a lot of classical music. Hahaha. Anyway, prelude on 15 is a popular one among the 24. You should try listening to nocturnes or waltz. Op69 no 2 ( Nocturne ) is good. :D

Why are guys afraid to say those three words?

  9. michy says:

drunk-dialling is cheap chou chou. I hate people drunk-dialling, whether it comes from the guy or the girl, it’s equally the same. Love never existed for me anymore, it’s something from the past :)

  10. Kurt says:

    “Did you ever love me?”

“Did you ever eat my balls?”

And enjoy the awkward silence on the other side.

Or, enjoy her coming over and eating your balls. You can’t lose with this one.

  12. Aggie says:

  13. Samantha says:

Isn’t it hard dealing with ex? I am a girl, I know. Sometimes girls can be problem. Whatever you say is wrong. Like if she asks you :” Have you ever loved me?” If you answer to fast, she would say you answer before thinking. If you answer after awhile, she might question you why take so long to answer. Mate, that’s girl.

jason, i’ve been following ur blog avidly and lately the feelings you’ve described sound mighty familiar. i believe i’ve encountered these emotions being felt by the heroes in countless romantic novels! and always there would be a heroine who would be able to make the hero believe in all the good things about love again. i hope you will find your heroine someday :D in the meantime, keep posting! i love reading your blog (now would you believe that kind of love?)

  15. huiru says:
