Spidermen

Ya’ll know spiderman right ? Bet you didn’t know there was some “international” versions as well.

Japanese Spiderman. Licensed from Marvel to Toei. Of course they had to “localize” it. He gets his power from a magical bracelet and is the last inhabitant of Planet Spider. Notice the tight spandex and rubber monster enemy …eeeekks…

After he destroys the enemy, the enemy will almost always turn into a giant monster. In which case, Spiderman hops onto his giant robot , Leapardon, to dispatch his enemy. I want a giant robot too.

The man behind the mask, Yamashiro Takuya, a motor cross champion.

Indian spiderman. Created by Stan Lee himself for the Indian market. He’s a normal schoolboy given magic by a mystic.

The man behind the mask , Pavitr Prabhakar.

Something about the names :

Peter Parker = Pavitr Prabhakar
Aunt May = Aunt Maya
Uncle Ben = Uncle Bhim
Mary Jane = Meera Jain

Come on , at least the Japanese had Yamashiro Takuya.

This is the Dutch Spiderman. Ugliest of the bunch. I won’t even bother writing about him.

So when is the malaysianized version ? Lelaki Labah-Labah ? What would he do ? Catch DVD sellers and fight corrupt policemen ? Bargain with the cut-throat peddlers of Petaling Street ? Be a journalist for the Sun newspaper ? Eliminate bribery from the police force ? Catch corrupt politicians ? Compete with Keluang Man(a bastardized Batman who looks like a banana) for a TV spot ? Fight the I.S.A ?

Okay, I’ve said too much. I love my country, ignore all of the above. Please spiderman, don’t take away our DVD sellers.
