snooze
I’ve had trouble waking up early lately. Usually I press the snooze button on my alarm clock 4 or 5 times until it turns off by itself. This usually results in me waking up at 12pm, which means I skip my Friday morning class.
Perhaps you can even take this snooze metaphor to describe how I live my life sometimes. Like how I procrastinate over the weekend to work on my resume, delaying to call someone, working on my assignments or even to write this damned blog entry.
It’s ironic that I wrote “blog about procrastination” in my to-do list a month ago.
I came upon an article on Zen Habits (a good motivational blog) which talks about positive and negative feedbacks. Basically , in order to change a bad habit you need to increase or decrease feedback associated with the habit.
For example, if you want to lose weight, positive feedback would be people telling you how great you look. Unfortunately, this might take a while and most people never get to that stage.
So back to my problem. To increase negative feedback for my bad habit (sleeping in), I would:
- Open the window so that the sun would shine in my face
- Put my alarm clock at the top of my cupboard so that it’s hard to reach
Now waking up early is only the start of many things to come!
Time to wake up!

Yeah, putting the alarm clock so it’s out of reach is a good one. I use to do it during school days. This will mean you’d have to actually get out of bed to switch it off. So at least, you won’t be in the comfort of your bed to fall asleep again. And, being the anal person about punctuality, I also put all my clocks in the house 10-15 mins early so I will never be late.
So… wake up!
Well, u can get those alarm with radio built in features and set to alternative music, make sure the power supply is not within reach, put the volume to max and …wa la! u have yourself a SURE wake up plan…. (but then again; having a sweetie to come n wake up over with hugs n kisses would be the best wake up call) mmmm…mmmm
procrastination. sigh…
i can relate to the procrastination abt losing weight..hahahah..it’s been almost 7 years already..
(but then again; having a sweetie to come n wake up over with…
YES!
…hugs n kisses would be the best wake up call)

At some desperate times during the wee hours of exam when im not suppose to really fall asleep, i often sleep near the edge of the bed so that by luck i would fall off the bed n wake up ^_^ hahahahah..
yeah, this happens to us all when I turn on the aircond for all our rooms lol
hehe.. maybe it will work better for u but i used to tie my alarm clock in a box and put it on the cupboard many years ago.
after 7 days i became an expert in walking to the cupboard and untying strings in my sleep.
hm.
oh but i read in one backpackers magazine a way to not miss ur alarm clock is to drink lots of water the nite b4 but not too much. supposedly when the alarm rings then u absolutely have to get up n go to the toilet. hahahaha.
I forgot to add number 3 to that list ! Jump into my pool !

Don’t blame yourself… Blame the cold weather. It’s so comfortable to delay a little on your bed ~ Becuz of this, I’d allocated all my class after 12 pm for this sem.
