of earthquakes and internets

Seems that earthquakes in taiwan can cause internet disruptions here in Malaysia.

I found this out from lowyat.net .

Those red lines show the tubes of the internets. So this earthquake right (shown by the white star in the middle of the picture) kinda blew open the tube.

Our internet overlords, Tmnet, says our internets outage would be fixed by next Thursday. But today my internet is working fine. Why ar ?

Seems that they are using alternative tubes or something. But my guess is that Taiwan fixed their underwater cables. So if it was up to Tmnet , they would fix it only by next Thursday.

I don’t know, maybe I’m biased.

That pic reminds me of the game Defcon (heard of it?)

Noler, you’re not biased, it’s just another consistency in our unvierse; streamyx sucks.

We can still surf because we are using our alternative trunks through other countries. There are at least 20 or so ISP/Telcos using the submarine cable that got affected and the estimate was 3 weeks for the cable to be repaired and restored to its full efficiency/capacity.

As much as we want to blame Streamyx/TMNET for this, it really isn’t in their hands as the section of the network is under Taiwan :)
