Bangkok Trip day 5 : alone in bangkok

Sunday, June 3rd, 2007

This was actually the day I spent alone because I bought a cheaper return ticket. So, how was it like being alone in Bangkok ?

I won’t go into details here, because my memory is a bit hazy. I’ll just post the pictures then:

Some students listening to a monk under a tree

The huge temple opposite the “Giant Swing”. I spent quite some time here, just watching the people praying and enjoying the tranquility. The peace inside is a huge contrast with the traffic and city outside the temple.

Gold and black buddhas in the aformentioned temple.

The ‘monk’ sitting there is not real ! I didn’t touch it, but I think it’s made out of rubber. Now who would want to put that in their house ? or temple ?

This dog was running on some kinda treadmill. It’s not as cruel as it seems, because the dog can run and stop whenever he wants to. But still, that poor guy is stuck there.

I went to Patpong, but I didn’t have the guts to enter any of the bars. I heard stories where they would try to cheat you, or even worse rob you. Better not go into these bars alone, I figured.

The sky during dawn, as seen from my rooftop. I met a Brazillian-Japanese and we spent some time together on the roof, exchanging information about out cultures. It’s funny that she once said “I’d never kiss a Chinese guy because they spit everywhere”. Apparently that’s very common in Beijing.

Well, that concludes the Bangkok Trip. I do wish to go back there one day, to complete these 2 things:

  • Actually going into a strip bar ( with some friends )
  • Going on the 9-temple pilgrimage

Hopefully I get to do that before I die ^_^

What is Bangkok without the shopping and the food eh ?

I didn’t really go inside, but doesn’t Central World look pretty ?

bangkok trip day 2 : floating down the river

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

Okay , here’s where the real pictures come in.

The second day we were in Bangkok , we took a trip down the Chao Praya river. This has always been a favorite for me. There’s just something about the river that I love, and would one day I hope that my ashes will be scattered there.

Boat rides are 16 baht. Take the tourist or public boat, it’s the same company. Also, if you just want to cross the river, it’s 3 baht.

Pictures!

bangkok trip day 1

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

Last week I was in Bangkok for a holiday and boy did I had a great time. When it was time to come back, I was rather sad about it. Hence the Post-Holiday-Syndrome ( Chienne comes up with these words ). I fell asleep this afternoon and I dreamt briefly I was still in Bangkok, in the exact same spot I took a mental picture. That was how sad my PHS was.

Oh, and I went to bangkok with Stephanie, her sister Carol and Carol’s boyfriend , Steve. Not much pictures of them here cause I’m only using my phone camera pictures at the moment. Please be patient.

Some quick notes about where we stayed:

  • We stayed at Hostelling International, Sukhumvit
    ( 300 Baht a night)
  • 2 double decker beds , shared restroom
  • The hostel was walking distance to the BTS Skytrain, which was very convenient
  • Nice chillout area, with common areas to mingle with other backpackers (this will have a blog entry of it’s own ^_^)

Not much happened on the first day because we arrived quite late and was pretty tired. Click on the link to see the pictures !

hello from Bangkok!

Sunday, May 20th, 2007

I’m having a great time over here, despite a stupid cough.

The hostel that I’m staying in is really nice. People here are friendly, and the location is great. I can take the BTS Skytrain to almost anywhere in Bangkok. There’s also good food down the road.

I’m off to the Emerald Buddha Temple now ! Going to take a million pictures !

Okay, cya’ll when I get back. Shouldn’t be on the internets now. Bye !
