to all new arrivals

Friday, April 27th, 2007

Few months ago, only friends and family were reading this blog. I actually blogged about myself and had a few emo posts here and there. Just realized recently I haven’t been talking about myself lately and what I’ve been up to. It’s like I’ve turned into a robot or something. I guess it’s about time.

I’ve applied to study my Masters in Information and Communication Technology in Griffith University, Brisbane. My offer letter should arrive next week, fingers crossed. That actually means I might visit some of you guys in Melbourne. Hope to see you there ^_^

To those of you who I’ve met online recently, welcome to my blog! It’s great reading about your blogs and seeing your pictures and thoughts. Many of you have different reasons to blog and some of you want to share what you could never reveal in real life. Or some of you do blog about your real life.

As for me? Sometimes I’m frustrated because I cannot blog about everything, so I reveal them indirectly in comics. Like how the girls in my comics are violent to the guys? They read this blog you know. I wish they knew how I felt. I wish I knew how I really feel.
I know I don’t talk much about myself lately, but I used to. I hope to do so more in the future. In case I forget, here’s a little more about myself and what happened in the past year:

  1. Got a job
  2. Graduated
  3. Got a tatoo
  4. Started drawing comics
  5. Started sketching
  6. Attended an award ceremony
  7. Puked my guts out
  8. Had trouble with girls
  9. Fell in love
  10. Got my heart ripped out
  11. Got my heart back
  12. Assembled my first piece of furniture
  13. Got my wisdom tooth pulled out
  14. Bought my first computer with my own money
  15. Found out I have hay fever ( allergic rhinitis )

Sorry that my blog’s been done for almost 2 weeks. It feels like forever in bloggerland. It’s good to be back, boys and girls.

blog down

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

My blog was offline from Sunday till today. The webhost received a massive DDOS attack. A Distributed Denial of Service attack uses many computers to attack a single server. Then, the server cannot handle all that incoming load, thus denying the service to legitimate users.

My webhost suspects competitors to be responsible for this. But I think maybe god was upset at my previous comic. Just kidding god, please don’t bomb my server again.

I also learnt two things from this ordeal:

  • mizzgrace is also hosted on this same webhost. I visited her blog a few days ago and was wondering why it went down. Turns out my webhost guy is her classmate! haha.
  • It felt like I had withdrawal symptoms when I couldn’t check on my blog. Maybe I shouldn’t spend so much time on this blog after all.

Well, I’m back, boy and girls ^_^

pride

If you’re wondering why I drew god as a triangle with an eyeball, I don’t know why either. Well, that’s how the perrybible guy drew it, and I thought it was kinda cool. It’s probably some illuminati reference.

Anyways, if you’re interested, I once wrote a short story about lucifer. Something like a journal. Or maybe even a blog. That would be so awesome.

new layout

Sunday, April 22nd, 2007

I’ve changed my blog layout a bit. Been itching to do that a while, and today it just felt right. Well, sort of.

The first thing you might notice is the new header. I’m trying this more informative header with text and icons. Looks cool to me at the moment, or it might be a little too cluttered.

Then theres that mybloglog widget. It’s like a bloggers community and you can see who actually visited your blog. Check it out on the sidebar on the right. Oh, and it seems that my blog has more girl readers than guys. Interesting …

I’ve also seperated my blogroll to 3 parts:

  • friends and enemies
For people I’ve actually met. Yes, I love and hate them.
  • interesting strangers
People I met in bloggerland and I’m not sure if they’re robots or real people. I got this term, “interesting strangers” from angelo.
  • jasons
Yes, there are many Jasons. And we are going to rule the world

Tell me what you guys think ^_^

Lao Zha Bor

Saturday, April 21st, 2007

Here’s something to cheer you up on the weekend. I was visiting ellone’s blog and this blogger caught my eye:

Lao Zha Bor, blogging on her brand new Mac

By the way, Lao Zha Bor is Hokkien for old woman (thanks steph!)

Her blog is very funny, seriously. One of the funniest I’ve ever visited. There is one post, where she and her friend Jing Jing went to the arcade and camwhored! I don’t know if she even knows what is the meaning of the word, but she and her friend are certified camwhore experts!

She also blogs like you and me ! With language like “We had a hell lot of fun overthere!” Furthermore, most of her blog entries receive 50+ comments. However, she has also received negative attention, with people pretending to be her and some leaving nasty comments. Sigh ..

I think she is a singaporean actress (that’s what I can gather from her posts). She also has youtube videos of herself rapping! You must see it to believe it!

Okay, enough of me talking. Go visit her blog ! It will surely brighten up your day. Or hour, at least.

*update: turns out that Singaporean director created this blog as part of a movie. Thanks mizzgrace for the info*

virginia tech shootings

Friday, April 20th, 2007

“A gunman killed thirty-two people and injured another twenty-nine before committing suicide, making it one of the deadliest killing sprees in modern U.S. history.”

-wikipedia-

I had a glance of it on tv. It caught my eye for a while on the papers. There were some headlines on the news websites I subscribe to. Only today I saw a picture of the victims.

I nearly teared and was disgusted by my previous indifference. I still don’t believe how I just put this incident at the back of mind, safely discarding it as information I didn’t want to know about.

Today, I looked up the incident in wikipedia to educate myself on this matter. I would like to close one eye to all the evil that is happening in the world, but I really can’t. How does one protect himself from all the crap that is happening out there ?

Well, this incident has gotten me angry over 3 things:

  • Sensationalism
Cho sent NBC some tapes about his ‘manifesto’, which he detailed his religion and his hatred of the wealthy. Instead of giving him the posthumous attention that he so craves, why not just discard the tapes ? No, NBC released video excerpts. Great, now his manifesto gets to be seen by millions around the world. Isn’t that what he wanted ? Fuck you, NBC.
  • Gun Control
It is no secret that guns are easy to obtain in the US. I think that alone contributed to this tragedy. Not so for gun advocates. They believe “guns are not accesible enough, hence the victims couldn’t defend themselves”. That’s right, solve the problem by throwing in more guns.
  • Scapegoats
To explain away this tragedy, many are quick to reinforce their prejudices. They do so by pointing fingers and propogate their biased views. Video games, race and writing are the suspects here. Fuck you, opportunists.

Okay , enough negativity. Further down the wikipedia article, I was touched by the acts of heroism (from the wikipedia article) :

  • Liviu Librescu held the door of his classroom shut while Cho was attempting to enter it; although he was shot through the door, he was able to prevent the gunman from entering the classroom until his students had escaped through the windows. A number of Librescu’s students have called him a hero because of his actions, with one student, Asael Arad, saying that all the professor’s students “lived because of him”. Librescu’s son, Joe, said he had received e-mails from several students who said he had saved their lives and regarded him as a hero whilst many newspapers also reported him as the hero of the massacre.
  • Kevin Granata went down to second floor from his third floor office of Norris Hall, where the second round of shootings in the massacre took place. It was reported by witnesses to investigators that Dr. Granata, inside either an office or a classroom with other people, heard a commotion and went into the hallway to see if he could help.
  • Partahi Lumbantoruan attempted to block the door from Cho’s attack and gave way to the fellow students to save themselves, but was killed as a result.
  • Zach Petkewicz and two other classmates (fourth-year students) in another classroom - shoved a long table against the door and held it there - helping save 11 students from the massacre.

All in all, I was indifferent, shocked, angered and touched by this whole incident. I pray for the victims and their families. For those who know me, praying is something I never do (being a free thinker). I do hope that there is a benevolent god in these horrid times.
