first day @ work

Monday, March 20th, 2006
It’s my first day at work and I’m sitting here on MSN and blogging. When I arrived the guys seemed like they just woke up. I think they slept over the Sunday to launch a website. I think I’m in store for some overnight working, maybe I should pack my toothbrush.

The environment looks pretty cool. Here’s a list of things which I could point out :

  • Playstation2
  • Metal Gear Solid 2 action figures
  • A guitar
  • Coco Pops cereal
  • Instant noodles
  • Bunch of dead monitors and cpus
  • The Practical Encylopedia of Magic
  • A scythe ( ?! )
  • Sofa

I think I’ll like working here. Well , maybe except for my broken chair. I’ll probably aquire a taste to the constant Anime J-Pop music playing too.

prime

Friday, March 17th, 2006

I watched Prime today on DVD. It’s a so called ‘romantic comedy’ featuring Uma Thurman , Meryl Streep and Bryan Greenberg. I put romantic comedy in ‘’s because I didn’t really think it was that funny. In fact , it was kinda slow.

Like , real life slowish. The movie is really kinda heavy, with quite a lot of themes going on. Makes you think a bit , like on these topics :
  • dating an elder woman
  • dating a younger guy
  • stepping up to be a man
  • growing up
  • sticking with a “unsafe” career choice
  • dealing with a controlling mom
  • letting go your “kid”
This isn’t your run of the mill romantic comedy. I wouldn’t recommend it to everyone though , cause it’s got a slow feel to the movie. Urban , dry and no idealistic romanticsm here.

Actually I liked the film because I could relate somewhat to some of its topics.

Like , videogames = no sex.

I’m not really a bum anymore

… cause I got a job today.

Lately I’ve started to feel that things are now starting to fall into place. As my final year project I developed a game in which I won an award for it. I didn’t think that game would go anywhere cause I can’t really commercialise it. Well, the award would look good on the resume at least.

Well, my friend Adrian recommended to me a job at his previous work place , IF interactive and I went to the interview today. Wow they’re really casual. I was probably dressed the nerdiest there with my nerdy shirt and pants and all.

So they were impressed by my resume and I got the job ! The best thing is it’s that’s it’s so near my house ! I can’t practically walk home for lunch ! The pay is not bad too ! Oh and they have a console video game. Hmmmm….

But they’re in the advertising field which means many late nights for me. Oh well, all good things come with a price :)
Now I can afford the Spongebob Squarepants DVD box set. HMmmm ….

across the universe II

Sunday, March 12th, 2006

Exploring in Celestia is kinda addictive. So here I am again …

Asteroid and comet lines. With this many comets and asteroids around , do you feel safe ? Look at that red line, it’s an asteroid. Nobody seems to be worried so I guess there’s nothing to worry.. I hope.

Constellations, Ursa Minor and Ursa Major. That’s big bear and small bear for you non-nerds.

The International Space Station. Yep , the one that blew up in movie Armageddon.

Our Sun and the Draco (Dragon) constellation behind it. If the constellation was named in modern times , it would have been called something else.

across the universe

Wow check out this free program , Celestia , which lets you explore space. Something like Google Earth but it’s for space. I went across the universe and took some pictures :

Earth as seen from the moon

Phobos , a moon of mars

Neptune and it’s many moons

Mimas , a moon of saturn. Behind it is saturn and it’s rings

The Milky Way , our home galaxy

Our sun ( Sol ) and the milky way behind it

Eros , an asteroid. Behind it is Uranus.

mosquito massacre

Sunday, March 12th, 2006

Today I killed many mosquitoes. In my room alone while procrastinating this blog entry I killed 6. They are lying squashed in this little tissue paper lump in front of me.

Earlier today I went out with the green new mosquito racket thingie and I killed uncountably many many mosquitoes out in the garden. I just swinged it around and heard many sparks and pops ( which means that the mosquitoes explode on contact with the racket .. very cool )

The racket doesn’t leave any visible body parts except for the legs. That means I can’t count how many I killed , but maybe 20 plus ?

Oh let the good times roll by …
