Change Resistance
Tuesday, November 8th, 2005You know the keybord you’re typing on ? It’s called a QWERTY keyboard , named after the top-left letters on the keyboard. Ever wondered how they came up with this layout ?
To solve this, they designed the typewriter layout to move the most common letter combinations apart from each other. This solved the key jamming problem, but it put an unneccesary strain on the left hand (you can type 3,000 words with the left hand alone, but you can only type 300 words with the right hand alone)
Well, 200 years have passed and you’d think they’d come up with a better keyboard right? Correct, they did. The DVORAK and IDEAL keyboard layouts boast faster and less tiring typing. But you know what ? People just didn’t want to change.
Old habits die hard eh ? Well , this was actually a case study from the textbook I was reading. Interesting stuff they have. Maybe I post more another time. Last exam on wednesday .. eek.
I can’t imagine, it’s the last exam I might ever take. Yikes …
